Ethno New Zealand 2027 will be the next chapter of Ethno in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Dates: 22nd – 31st January 2027
In 2027, Ethno New Zealand will be held at Dune Lakes Lodge, a beautiful rural venue surrounded by lakes, bush, horses and the west coast landscape.
Over ten days, young musicians from Aotearoa and around the world will come together to teach each other traditional music from their cultures, share stories and experiences, take part in workshops, and create music together.
In previous years, Ethno New Zealand has been held on marae, and those experiences have deeply shaped the way we gather and understand our kaupapa in Aotearoa.
In 2027, we are beginning a new adventure.
While we will not be living together on a marae, we will continue to explore our relationship with the whenua (Land), tangata whenua (Māori – People of the Land) and the cultures of Aotearoa. We will be supported by tangata whenua (Māori) and mana whenua, who will help guide us in connecting respectfully with the place where we are gathering.
Ethno New Zealand is about more than music. It is about sharing culture, building friendships, learning from one another and discovering new ways of creating community together.
The programme will finish with a number of performances, including at the iconic Auckland Folk Festival.
We can’t wait to meet you.
