Ethno Mobility Grant 2024 enters its 6th sensational year!

Get ready for a musical experience of a lifetime with the support of Ethno Mobility Grant 2024! If you’re a young musician with a passion for folk or traditional music, and you’ve been yearning to be part of an Ethno event in 2024 but need financial support to attend, this opportunity is for you – apply to the Ethno Mobility Grant!

The Ethno Mobility program is now entering its 6th sensational year! It’s one of the largest worldwide scholarship programs for folk, world, and traditional musicians, having supported approximately 100 musicians each year. It is being implemented through support of Margaret A. Cargill Philanthropies.

Scholarship Guidelines

  1. Inclusivity

To maximise opportunities for young musicians, scholarships are granted only once per person.

  1. Balance

The Ethno Mobility Team is committed to maintaining balance across various aspects – gender, culture, and a harmonious blend of musical instruments and styles. Our team coordinates all Mobility placements with all 40+ Ethnos globally to ensure an inclusive and diverse experience.

Important note: You can’t pick your Ethno destination – the grant will coordinate and offer you a suitable placement!

The approvals and placements are intricately managed based on the principles mentioned above. Additionally, in order to prevent that for example 10 violin players, 10 male drummers, or 10 musicians from one country ending up in the same Ethno – Mobility applicants cannot choose their Ethno placement.

While you won’t get to choose your specific Ethno destination, rest assured, we’re dedicating time, energy and resources to crafting and offering you (and the receiving Ethno), a placement that aligns with your availability and our inclusivity and balance criteria.

  1. Selection Insights

Your Ethno journey may be evaluated differently based on your attendance history. If you’ve been to an Ethno twice or more, your application might have a unique evaluation compared to those attending for the first time or those who’ve been only once before. We prioritise musicians that have not had the chance to experience an Ethno yet.

Countries eligible to apply:

Albania, Belgium, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Brazil, Bulgaria, Cameroon, Canada, Chile, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Ghana, Greece, Hungary, India, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, Macedonia, Malawi, Mozambique, New Zealand, Norway, State Of Palestine, Poland, Portugal, Solomon Islands, Serbia Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, UK, USA, and Zimbabwe.

Are you eligible?

Applicants must be either citizens or legal residents of these countries, except musicians from the United States, who must be US citizens. Under certain conditions some legal residents may NOT be able to receive the grant; all applications will be vetted for conformance, and selected candidates will be notified.

Age Criteria

Ethno is a youth music program for musicians aged 16* to 30.

*Note: If you’re under 18 and selected for a scholarship, fear not! You’ll be placed in one of the Ethnos that welcome minors. Please note that you will be required to provide a signed consent letter from a parent or legal guardian
