Ethno Uganda 2009

Ethno Uganda 2009

I Attended this Ethno
Ethno Uganda 2009 marked a historic milestone for the global Ethno network by Jeunesses Musicales International, as it was the first recorded Ethno gathering held outside Europe. The residency took place at the Ndere Centre auditorium in Kampala and brought together 25 young musicians from Uganda, Sweden, Belgium, Norway, Congo, Kenya, Denmark, and Tanzania.

Led by international and local artists including Wouter Vandenabeele and Joel Sebunjo, the camp followed the Ethno peer-to-peer learning model, with participants teaching each other traditional songs and indigenous instrument techniques by ear. Organized in collaboration with the Bayimba Foundation, the 2009 edition laid the foundation for Ethno’s expansion beyond Europe and became part of the wider Bayimba cultural movement in Uganda.
