22 April – 1 May, 2023 @Babel Camp Balatonboglár and Ethno tour cities
After an amazing 1st edition in 2022, the 2nd Ethno Hungary is coming in the spring of 2023! We invite passionate folk/ethno/world musicians and singers, aged between 18 and 30 from around the world, to join us for this extraordinary experience!
The camp takes place in Balatonboglár, south-west of Hungary, near the shores of the mesmerizing Lake Balaton. A relaxed countryside atmosphere and inspiring surroundings await you at the Babel Camp artist residency. Warning: you might find yourself dipping in the freezing cold Lake together with 25 crazy musicians…!! 🙂
Ethno Hungary is altogether 9 days of rehearsals, music workshops, cultural exchange and leisure time activities, wrapped up by 2 concerts in different venues. Amateurs and professionals are equally welcome! Any instrument will fit in the Ethno band (and if you can’t bring your own, let us know, we can hopefully arrange one here).
Experienced mentors will guide the group through the process of becoming an Ethno orchestra in a short week’s time, practising peer-to-peer teaching and learning by ear. You will get a chance to share your favourite traditional/folk tune from your country with your fellow musicians, and learn theirs.
There will also be Hungarian music and dance teaching workshops by local musicians, and every participant will get to share their own dance traditions with the group, too. Hikes, bike rides and other optional free-time activities will also be part of the fun!
The working language of the camp is English, but don’t worry if you’re not a fluent speaker, the music will help you overcome any language challenges.
Only 25 slots available!
Applications now open on Mubazar!
