Ethno Flanders 2000

Ethno Flanders 2000

I Attended this Ethno

Ethno Flanders 2000 marked the second edition of the Belgian international folk and world music camp, strengthening the Ethno concept in Western Europe following its debut the year before. Inspired by the original Swedish camps, the initiative was developed under the influence of Ivo Lemahieu, who helped establish the model in Belgium.

Bringing together young musicians aged 16–30 in the Flanders region, the camp followed the core Ethno peer-to-peer learning approach. Participants taught each other traditional tunes by ear in a non-formal and collaborative setting, culminating in collective performances. The programme was closely connected to the local folk scene in Gooik and partnered with the Dranouter Festival for showcase concerts, contributing to its growing international profile.
