Ethno England 2008 marked the final gathering of the programme’s initial six-year residency in York, continuing its place within the global Ethno network by Jeunesses Musicales International. Hosted at York St John University, the camp brought together around 20–25 young musicians to share their musical traditions through peer-to-peer learning.
Rooted in non-formal workshops and oral teaching, participants exchanged traditional tunes and songs by ear, ensuring equal participation across cultures and musical backgrounds. Alongside rehearsals and informal jam sessions, musicians engaged with the local community through workshops in schools and migrant centres. The residency culminated in a public concert tour, presenting the collaborative “transglobal big band” and celebrating intercultural dialogue through shared musical practice.
