Ethno England 2007 marked the fifth annual edition of the programme in York, continuing its residency at York St John University as part of the global Ethno network by Jeunesses Musicales International.
Bringing together around twenty young musicians aged 15–30 from diverse cultural backgrounds, the ten-day camp focused on peer-to-peer learning through oral tradition. Participants taught one another traditional and folk tunes by ear, creating a democratic and inclusive space for musical exchange.
The residency combined rehearsals, workshops, and informal jam sessions, while also engaging the local community through outreach activities in schools and migrant centres. The programme culminated in a concert tour featuring the collaborative “transglobal big band” and its border-crossing arrangements shaped during the camp.
