Ethno England 2004

I Attended this Ethno

Ethno England 2004 marked the second edition of the programme in York, continuing its role within the global Ethno network by Jeunesses Musicales International. Building on the success of its 2003 debut, the camp was hosted by York St John University and brought together young musicians aged 15–30 for a ten-day residency.

Through its signature peer-to-peer learning model, participants taught one another traditional tunes by ear, creating what became known as a “transglobal big band.” Alongside workshops, rehearsals, and shared living, musicians engaged in outreach activities at local schools and migrant centres, extending the experience into the wider York community. The programme culminated in a concert tour presenting collaborative arrangements of folk, world, and traditional music, reflecting Ethno’s commitment to intercultural dialogue and exchange.
