ETHNO HUNGARY CAMP 2022 – Connection, creation, cultural exchange
March 26 – April 4, Babel Camp Balatonboglár and Ethno tour cities
We invite 20 young folk/ethno/world musicians and singers, aged between 18 and 30 from around the world, to participate in the very first Ethno Hungary Camp in the spring of 2022! The camp takes place in the south-west of Hungary, near the shores of the mesmerizing Lake Balaton, in a relaxed countryside atmosphere and the inspiring surroundings of the Babel Camp artist residency.
Ethno Hungary is 7 days of rehearsals, music workshops, cultural exchange and leisure time activities, followed by a mini tour with 3 concerts in different cities around the country. Amateurs and professionals are equally welcome! Any instrument will fit in the Ethno band (and if you can’t bring your own, don’t worry, we will arrange one here). Experienced mentors will guide you through the process of becoming an Ethno Band from scratch in a short week’s time, practising peer-to-peer teaching and learning by ear. You will get a chance to share your favourite traditional/folk tune from your country with your fellow musicians, and to learn theirs.
The tour will also take us to the National Folk Dance House Meeting in Budapest, where around 2000 young folk dancers and musicians meet every year to see well-known Hungarian folk bands on stage, and to dance their shoes off in wild abandon during the evenings… It is the best place for making new friends and experiencing the famous Hungarian dance house tradition live!
Just like all Ethno programmes, Ethno Hungary Camp is based on community spirit and promotes the core values of openness, generosity and respect.
This Ethno experience might well become the time of your life, so don’t hesitate to apply! Deadline is 10 February 2022, 16:00 CET.
